Treasury gray list job

The Treasury and Finance Ministry intensified its efforts to remove Turkey from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) “grey list”.

According to the information received by the AA correspondent, while 5 of the 7 deficiencies determined by the FATF were eliminated, the directors of the corresponding Ministries and institutions held their first meeting on Monday, July 10, under the coordination of the Ministry of Finance. and Finance. , as for the 2 remaining deficiencies.

With the meeting, the Ministry of Finance began a fast and efficient coordination process. In this regard, training and awareness activities on money laundering and terrorist financing will be accelerated. Although specialized Prosecutor’s Offices and competent courts were established in all provinces in matters of money laundering and terrorist financing, guides were prepared on the investigation process by law enforcement. Trainings that will increase awareness will be accelerated.

ESTABLISHED TECHNICAL TEAM

While private work offices were being established, technical teams were also established to strengthen Turkey’s positive impression in the international community.

Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Finance and Treasury, said that Turkey firmly maintains its determination and sincerity in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing within the framework of the international standards established by the FATF, and in this context, accelerated its efforts to eliminate the deficiencies identified by the FATF.

Recalling that 5 of the 7 deficiencies determined by the FATF have been removed, Şimşek said:

“In order to carry out the work of the 2 remaining deficiencies quickly and effectively, under the coordination of our Ministry, the Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Finance and Finance, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and the relevant institutions of these Ministries (Financial Crimes Investigation Board of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Justice and Executives of the General Directorate of EU Affairs and the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of the Interior (KOM and TEM units), the Gendarmerie General Command (KOM and TEM units) met on Monday.

At the meeting it was once again emphasized that work to eliminate such deficiencies should be carried out quickly in effective coordination. In this context, after determining the specialized courts and prosecutors in charge of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, special investigation offices have also been established to combat money laundering. In the same context, in addition to the preparation of various guides for the corresponding units, training and awareness studies were carried out. In addition to these, the technical working groups established by our Ministries continue their activities intensively”.

Şimşek stressed that they will do whatever it takes to get off the FATF gray list as soon as possible and strengthen Turkey’s positive impression in the international community.

Referring to the negative effects of being on the gray list, Şimşek said that being on the list has some negative effects such as “a decrease in the flow of capital by a certain percentage of gross product” and “an increase in the cost of borrowing syndicated”.
