Double price confusion in bread prices
The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced that the price of 200 grams of bread did not increase on July 8 and should be sold at 5 lira. The governor’s office reported that bakeries selling at different prices were fined.
However, bread is sold for between 6 TL and 8 TL in bakeries in different districts. Loaves weighing between 200 and 230 grams were found to be selling for TL8 in Beşiktaş and TL6 at a bakery in Kağıthane.
116 OVENS DID NOT COMPLY WITH THE RATE AND MADE SALES
In the statement issued by the Istanbul Governor’s Office on Saturday, July 8, regarding the discussion on rising bread prices, “There have been reports in the press and on social media that bread prices have risen by our province. No new regulation has been made regarding bread prices in Istanbul. Currently, 200 g of bread is sold for 5 TL.” statements were made.
Regarding price inspections, “Bread Price Inspection with the Departments of Commerce, Agriculture and Police in 39 districts of Istanbul” was carried out. 205 bakeries were inspected and 116 bakeries were found to be selling non-compliant products and sanctions were applied. Inspections will continue.”
Despite this, bread was seen to be sold at different prices in many different districts of Istanbul, such as Gaziosmanpaşa, Beşiktaş and Kağıthane.
The bread, which was sold for 8 TL in Beşiktaş and Gaziosmanpaşa, was seen to vary between 200 and 230 grams and 6 TL in Kağıthane. It was seen that the bakers made a price unit at many points.
‘WE SELL AT A LOSS’
Cumhur Aydın, a baker in Gaziosmanpaşa, said: “Currently, we continue with 230 grams, 8 TL. Frankly, the cost is even over 8 TL. It’s been 3 days since we did an augmentation. There are those who are understanding and there are those who react because he buys a lot of bread, ”he said.
Saying, “A state-subsidized sack of flour cost around 370-380 TL,” Aydın continued:
“The current cost is between 525-550 with the cut in state support, but if we use Konya flour, this changes to between 620-720. Previously, a bag of flour was around 380 TL, it was more convenient.
Prices seem to be rising according to the current trend. Everything began to increase, from the cost of labor, from fuel. Selling the bread for 10 TL can save us. Currently not meeting expectations. It must be sold for at least 10 TL, that is, to raise the baker to a level of prosperity. We are currently selling at a loss.”
‘LAW 8 TL ON THE BASE OF BEŞİKTAŞ DISTRICT’
Askin Camli, a baker from Beşiktaş, said: “Bread costs us 8 TL. The recipe came to us from the Union of Bread Entrepreneurs. From July 1 and 2, 230 grams of bread will be sold for 8 TL. In general, 280 grams equals 10 TL. 250 grams are 9 TL. We are taking care of our business. We are servants of order. Whatever the union tells us, we apply that price. They say that they sell us at this price, they say that they buy this, they say that they give this, that they give us a salary, that they give us an income, ”he said.
‘WE SHOULD HAVE A RISE OF 6 TL’
Nurcan Pisikoğlu, who is a baker in Kağıthane and sells bread for 6 TL, said, “There has to be an increase. 6TL for us. So now flour has come to us with a price increase. Everything gets a raise. Unfortunately he has to. You are not on time. Look, now the leaven is rising. Flour, salt, that’s what I use. Increase in electricity and natural gas, leaving 6 TL. What else can we buy for 6 TL? Let’s ask him. I’m selling it for 6 TL right now. I will have to do a raise, ”he said.
‘THEY ARE ALSO RIGHT, COSTS INCREASE’
Yücel Zengin, who bought bread, said: “I bought it for 8.5 TL. Your weight changes, the type of bread changes. Of course, they are justifiably increasing costs, ”he said. University student Çağrı Alp Güder said, “I bought two rolls and one donut for breakfast, I gave 80 TL.” (DHA)
