US Treasury Secretary Yellen: The world is big enough for the US and China to prosper
The Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Janet Yellen, offered a press conference yesterday after completing her contacts in China.
Yellen shared the details of her visit to China, saying, “There are major disagreements between the United States and China. “We believe that the world is big enough for both countries to prosper,” she said.
US Treasury Secretary Yellen completed her contacts with China yesterday, which began on July 6.
Yellen met with Chinese Premier Qiang Li, Vice Premier He Lifeng, Finance Minister Liu Kun, People’s Bank of China Chairman Pan Gongseng and other senior executives.
‘THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT DISPUTES BETWEEN THE US AND CHINA’
Minister Yellen made the following statements regarding her visit:
“I intend to speak openly and honestly about the relationship between our countries. We must address the challenges and opportunities we face based on solid facts.
There are major disagreements between the United States and China. These disagreements must be articulated openly and directly. But President Biden and I don’t see the US-China relationship as one big power conflict.
We believe the world is big enough for both countries to prosper. Both countries have an obligation to manage this relationship responsibly. We must find a way to live together and share global prosperity.”
‘NO CHALLENGE CANNOT BE RESOLVED IN ONE NIGHT’
Minister Yellen stressed that difficulties cannot be solved overnight, saying: “No visit can solve our difficulties overnight. But I hope this visit will help establish a strong and efficient communication channel with China’s new economy team. In the past two years, the meetings between the two parties have been prominent in public opinion, including my visit to China with Minister Blinken. “I hope we can move to a stage in our relations where high-level diplomacy is seen as a natural part of managing one of the world’s most important bilateral relationships,” she said.
