A letter from retirees to Erdogan
Kazım Ergün, President of the Turkish Pensioners’ Association (TÜED), sent a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan requesting that the lowest pension be raised to the level of the minimum wage and a 4,000-lira improvement to pensions.
In his letter, Ergün emphasized that as TÜED, they work hard to bring the problems of retirees on the agenda and solve them.
10 million retirees receive a salary of 7,500 TL
Stating that they are satisfied with the resolution of many of the problems that they have expressed over time, Ergün used the following expressions, addressing President Erdoğan:
“One of our demands that we have kept on the agenda for years; Before 2000, your application for adaptation of SSK retirees, vacation bonus, KEY payments, free and discounted trips for people over 65, the right to EYT retirement, your support for the housing problem of retirees without home, your efforts to solve the problems we have experience in health, additional payments, bank queues and we thank you for your solutions to bank promotions.
However, despite all these sincere efforts, at the point reached today, approximately 10 million of our retirees are struggling to survive on the lowest pension payment of 7,500 lira.”
25 percent of retirees were disappointed.
Ergün continued his letter by pointing out that the relief measures for civil servants, public workers and minimum wage earners made them very happy:
“However, our retirees, who buy the same bread in the same market for the same price and have to live on 7,500 lira, unfortunately do not have the opportunity to continue their lives in a healthy way.
The proposal, which was added to the bill that was being discussed in Parliament and which contemplated a 25 percent increase for retirees, was received with great disappointment in our community, which has dedicated its life to the reconstruction and construction of this country and has reached retirement, which we define as a sacred right through the payment of premiums for years.
SCHEDULE REQUEST
Emphasizing that millions of retirees want an additional 25 percent increase in wages, Ergün concluded his letter with the following words:
“As retirees, our demand is; make an improvement that will bring some relief to our retirees, bring the lowest pension to the level of the minimum wage, and realize state-protected social security by making an increase of at least 25+4 thousand liras for those who have a salary monthly above 7,500 liras, as promised. . In this way, the gap that is gradually opening with other sectors will be closed and a fair application will be achieved. (AA)
