Card payments reached TL 625.9 billion in May

According to data from the Interbank Card Center (BKM), the total amount of payments made in May with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards increased by 125 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 625 ,9 billion TL.

As of the end of May, 107.1 million credit cards, 177.6 million debit cards and 78.6 million prepaid cards were reached in Turkey.

Compared to May 2022, there was an increase of 19 percent in the number of credit cards, 14 percent in the number of debit cards, and 28 percent in the number of prepaid cards.

The total number of cards reached 363.3 million, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

507.7 BILLION LIRA IN CREDIT CARD

The total amount of payments made by credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in May increased by 125 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached TL 625.9 billion. TL 507.7 billion of credit card payments, TL 108 billion of debit cards and TL 10.2 billion of prepaid cards were made.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the growth rate was 130 percent in credit card payments, 109 percent in debit card payments and 110 percent in payments made with prepaid cards.

The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in May increased 27 percent compared to the same period a year earlier and reached 1.3 billion. While 717 million of these payments were made with credit cards, 502 million of them were debit cards, and 80.9 million of them were prepaid cards.

Compared with the same period of the previous year, the growth rate in the number of credit card payments was 25 percent, while the number of debit card payments was 30 percent, while this rate was 24 percent in the number of payments made. with prepaid cards.

CASH WITHDRAWAL THROUGH A DAILY CODE AT ATMs

With TROY logo credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards, the total amount of purchases made in May increased by 469 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached TL 13 billion. In May, the number of purchases and cash withdrawals made using cards with the TROY logo approached TL 20 billion, and this figure reached TL 63.3 billion at the beginning of the year.

The market share of cards with the TROY logo in total purchases reached 2.08% in May.

In May, 21.5 million cash withdrawals were made from ATMs with TR QR Code. 18 percent of all cash withdrawal transactions were made with TR QR Code.

The use of QR codes in workplace payments made via POS is increasing rapidly. Payments with TR DataMatrix made in the work centers reached 4 times compared to the same month of the previous year. Thus, the number of transactions reached 2.37 million in May 2023.

20.7 MILLION USERS IN THE EASY ADDRESS SYSTEM

BKM TechPOS transactions reached their highest level since the beginning with an average of 52.8 million transactions per month as of May. As of May, the highest monthly turnover volume was reached with TL 14 billion in payments made through BKM TechPOS.

In line with these developments, the transaction volume of BKM TechPOS at payment terminals, the total number of which is 3.2 million, increased by 4 percent, while its application-based field usage reached 363 thousand. .

As of May, 11 participants work as Account Service Provider and Authorized Payment Service Provider through “GECIT”. The daily average of API requests through GATE reached 8 million.

The Easy Addressing System (KOLAS) reached 20.7 million unique users and 28 million accounts in May with its increasing usage.

Trench participants made a total of 85 million suspicious transaction inquiries in May. The number of false transaction notifications, on the other hand, increased by 346 percent in May compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 19.9 million TL. (AA)
