Bad news for those who bring phones from abroad

The fee for permission to use telephones brought from abroad for personal use was increased by 228 percent.

The Presidential Agreement regarding the implementation of the Decision on the Redetermination of Fixed Charges in Tariffs under Tariff Law No. 492 was published in the Official Gazette.

Within the scope of the decision, the ‘telephone usage permit fee brought with the passenger’ was increased from 6,091 TL to 20,000 TL with an increase of 228 percent.

15 thousand 110 percent increase in 8 years

With the latest decision, the total rate increase applied to phones brought from abroad for personal use since 2015 has been 15,110 percent.

Tax expert Dr. Ozan Bingöl shared the changes in the fee amount on his social media account.

Consequently, the rates for mobile phones brought from abroad for personal use have changed over the years as follows:

While the fee, which was 131.50 TL in 2015, increased to 500 TL in 2018, this amount increased to 1,500 TL in 2019 with an increase of 200 percent.

The amount of the fee, which was determined at 1,838 lira in 2020, was determined at 2,066 lira in 2021 and 6,091 lira in 2023.

With the decision published today in the Official Gazette, the rate was increased from 6,091 TL to 20,000 TL. Consequently, there has been an increase of 15 thousand 110 percent in telephone rates brought from abroad in 8 years.
