The Spanish minister suggested that each 18-year-old receive 20,000 euros

Spanish Labor Minister Yolanda Díaz has proposed a plan to tackle social inequality by giving every young person in the country 20,000 euros (570,000 TL) to study or start a business when they turn 18.

According to Díaz, who announced the plan before the anticipated general elections in Spain on July 23, the cost of the initiative will be 10,000 million euros. This amount will be raised by collecting taxes from the rich.

The goal of the plan was explained as “ensuring ‘equal opportunity’ for people, regardless of family background or income.” With the payments that will continue from the age of 18 to the age of 23, young people will be able to educate themselves or start their own business.

THE TAX WILL BE TAKEN FROM THE RICH

“It is about letting young people have a future and giving them the opportunity to study or undertake, regardless of their surnames,” Díaz, a member of the left-wing Sumar alliance, said in a meeting with foreign correspondents in Madrid yesterday afternoon. .

Diaz has pointed out that the so-called ‘universal heritage’ scholarship can be used by all young Spaniards regardless of their economic situation, and this regime will be financed by taxing people who earn more than 3 million euros a year.

GOVERNMENT OBJECTION

Nadia Calvino, the coalition government’s economy minister, opposed Díaz’s departure.

“Anyone proposing a grant or unrestricted donation must explain how it will be funded,” Calvino said. Because we will have to maintain a responsible fiscal policy in the coming years, ”he said.
