The unemployment rate in the euro area remained stable in May
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published unemployment data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone for the month of May.
Consequently, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the EU, which was 6 percent in April, was 5.9 percent in May.
The unemployment rate in the Euro Zone, which was 6.5 percent in April, remained stable in May.
The unemployment rate was 6.7 in the Eurozone and 6.1 in the EU in May last year.
THE NUMBER OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE EU 2.6 MILLION
By country, the unemployment rate was 12.7 percent in Spain, 7.6 percent in Italy, 7 percent in France and 2.9 percent in Germany in May.
While the number of unemployed in the EU was 12 million 937 thousand in May, 11 million 14 thousand of them occurred in the Euro Zone.
In May, the number of unemployed young people under the age of 25 was 2,696,000 in the EU and 2,226,000 in the Eurozone.
The youth unemployment rate was measured at 13.9 percent in the EU and the euro area. (AA)
