It is estimated that the rented planes and helicopters are mainly used by senior executives such as ministers and deputy ministers, who are spread across electoral districts. According to official budget data from the Ministry of Finance, the government leased planes and helicopters in the first 5 months of this year, incomparably more than in previous years. In the first 5 months of last year, a total of 130 million lira was paid for leased planes and helicopters, while the rent paid in the same period this year reached a record level of 636 million 492 thousand lira. It should be noted that aircraft and helicopter rentals increased exponentially, especially in March, April and May, when the electoral process accelerated.

The total rental price paid for aircraft and helicopters leased from the public treasury for just 5 months this year was 2.2 times higher than the total amount paid in the same period of the last 5 years spanning the years 2018-2022.

Rental car payments reached TL billion

In the election year, the amount paid from the state budget for leased planes and helicopters, as well as vehicles leased to the private sector, almost doubled and exceeded 995 million lira. In the first 5-month period, from January to May of last year, 523 million liras were paid for vehicles rented by all public institutions and organizations. With the effect of the electoral period, this year’s car rental payment increased by 90 percent. It should be noted that vehicle rental increased by 109 percent and 95 percent, respectively, in the last 2 months of the election, in April and May.
