“We cannot find an operator with a salary of 55 thousand TL”

Federation of Construction Contractors Associations of the Eastern Mediterranean (DAİMFED) President Mustafa Karslıoğlu, Vice President Nadir Vurankaya, Secretary General Enes Yılmaz and board members Tamer Gülcan and Barış Yıldırım visited SÖZCÜ office in Adana .

President Mustafa Karslıoğlu stated that they had difficulties in finding tower crane operators in the ongoing construction projects in Adana and said:

“We cannot find tower crane operators to use for our construction. We currently offer a salary of 55,000 TL, but we are having difficulties finding suitable staff. We pay the same salary as a legislator or a teacher, but we can’t find a tower crane operator”.

On a visit to SÖZCÜ, DAİMFED Chairman Mustafa Karslıoğlu met Adana representative Mehmet Serbes.

“WE HAVE SYRIANS”

Regarding the shortage of middle staff, Karslıoğlu continued as follows:

– We need trained intermediate staff from vocational high schools. However, we are having difficulty finding intermediate staff. We employ Syrians. If the Syrians leave, the labor shortage will increase and the construction sector will be negatively affected. The middle staff gap needs to be filled quickly. In the past, our children used to be trained in professional groups as a mechanic and a turner during the holidays.

– But now parents are directing their children to become engineers, doctors, judges, prosecutors or lawyers. They don’t send our children to learn a trade. We directed them to schools like motor vehicle professions and construction professions. For our children to have a profession, they need to gain experience in real life. Education in schools is inadequate. They have to learn by living.
