Vacation bonus melted $139 over 5 years

The vacation bonus awarded to retirees decreased from $224 in 2018 to $85 today.

CHP Muğla MP Cumhur Uzun said: “The bond became a stamp against inflation, it lost $139 in 5 years. Our retirees, who cannot even give pocket money to their grandchildren, find it difficult to cut 6 kilos of meat, let alone slaughter with this money. While in 2018 3.2 pieces of a gold quarter were bought, today not a single one can be bought. The retirement bonus must be equal to the minimum wage,” he said.

Recalling that the holiday bonus, which began to be given to retirees as TL 1,000 in 2018, was increased to TL 2,000 this year, Uzun said, “The TL 2,000, which almost disappeared due to high inflation, also lost its purchasing power. At the end of 5 years, this money was converted into stamps. The value of the jackpot, which was $224 in 2018, has been reduced to $85. While 3.2 gold quarters were bought that day, not one can be bought today,” he said.

THEY ARE HARD TO MAKE 6 KG OF MINSE

Noting that the vacation bonus faded in 5 years, Uzun went on to state that retirees could hardly buy 6 kilograms of minced meat with this money:

“While the bonus was an average of $224 in 2018, today it equates to $85. It has lost $139 in value in five years. The bonus disappears before reaching the pocket. Our retirees, who cannot even give pocket money to their grandchildren, find it difficult to cut 6 kilos of meat, let alone slaughter with this money. Despite doubling, the price of many staple foods has quintupled.”
