One in four people has debt
The May report of the Istanbul Barometer survey conducted by the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been released today.
48.6 percent of the respondents said that the most discussed topic at home is the Turkish presidential election, while 34.5 percent said economic problems. While economic issues ranked first among the most discussed issues at home in April, economic issues came after the May election agenda.
INCREASED 18.4 PERCENT
48.4 percent of the participants stated that economic problems are the main agenda in Istanbul. While the presidential election ranked second with 18.5 percent, IMM demolition of illegal structures in public spaces ranked third with 12.3 percent.
Compared with the previous month, there was an 18.4 percent increase in the rate of those who said that Istanbul’s agenda was economic problems.
GAME STATE
The rate of those who declared that they could earn a living was determined at 24.1 percent. In May, 24.3 percent of respondents said they couldn’t make some payments and borrowed money, 11 percent said they had a hard time living, 40.4 percent said they could barely make ends meet , 24.1 percent could earn a living and save.
30.1 percent of the participants thought the Turkish economy would improve, 31.6 percent thought it would not change and 38.2 percent thought it would get worse. The rate of those who think Turkey’s economy will improve in April was 48.5 percent.
STRESS LEVEL: 7.6
Participants were asked about their emotional state in May and asked to rate them out of 10.
The average stress level of Istanbul residents was 7.6 and the anxiety level was 6.7. The level of satisfaction with life and happiness in May was determined at 4.6. The stress level of Istanbul residents increased compared to April. In April, the stress level was 7.1 and the happiness level was 4.9.
Participants were asked to rate their hopes for the future out of 10. Istanbulites’ hope for the future was measured as 4.2. The main reasons for this situation were the economic situation of the country with 77.9 percent and the political situation of the country with 43.9 percent, respectively.
