How much will the minimum wage increase be? minimum wage date
The commission, which held its first meeting in recent days, organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, held its second meeting on minimum wage yesterday. The third meeting, where the minimum wage is expected to be determined, will be held on Tuesday, June 20.
DATE GIVEN FOR MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE
Turkish business president Ergün Atalay met with AKP chairman and chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the AKP headquarters in the evening.
In statements to the press after the meeting, Atalay said that the minimum wage hike expected by millions could be announced before Thursday.
“50 PERCENT CHANCE OF BEING ANNOUNCED TOMORROW”
Atalay said: “I conveyed our demands and the point we have reached to our President”, and continued his words as follows;
* We have reached a certain point. But right now, it’s not right for me to say something here before reaching a certain place with the minister of labor and the president of TİSK, but I hope it won’t reach a Thursday.
* Let’s see what happens. I hope it’s close to what we want. I hope we can finish it before Thursday.
*The probability that it will happen tomorrow is 50 percent. Let me talk to the minister one more time… Let’s get things to a certain point, I hope to get to a certain place tomorrow or the worst Wednesday,” he said.
HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM FEE BE?
As negotiations to raise the minimum wage continued, an estimate came in from economist Hakan Kara.
Bilkent University Faculty Member, Former Central Bank Chief Economist (CBRT) Prof. Dr. Hakan Kara shared his expectation on the minimum wage increase coming in July on his social media account.
Kara stated that when determining the minimum wage, Turkey-Is hunger index has been taken as a reference recently.
Kara said that when this index is taken as a reference for the provisional increase in July and the index will increase by 5 percent in June, he expects the net minimum wage to be 10,880 lira with an increase of 28 percent.
Stating that the authorities can complete the figure to 11,000 by making direct calculations, Kara said that in this case, the rate of increase of the minimum wage would be 29.3 percent.
According to the latest hunger and poverty data shared by Türk-İş, the hunger limit for a family of four increased to TL 10,362.01 and the poverty threshold to TL 33,752.49 in May.
THE FORGOTTEN $500 PLEDGE AFTER THE ELECTION
It is striking that the authorities, who made statements about the minimum wage after the elections, did not make any statement regarding the $500 announced before the elections.
Vedat Bilgin, who was Minister of Labor and Social Security before the new cabinet, said in a television program in which he participated: “We will regulate the minimum wage in July in a way that protects real purchasing power. In January we made a deal that took it to the highest level of more than $455 in dollars in the history of the Republic. We will do the same in July. It will be a fee of approximately 500 dollars. Our work is done, ”he said.
Official statements that the minimum wage will rise to the $500 level with the July interim increase were muted by the sharp rise in the post-election exchange rate. Despite Bilgin’s statement “Our work is done,” none of the officials mentioned $500 after the election.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, on the other hand, made a statement about the minimum wage on the TV show he attended yesterday: “The dollar does not stand still, it changes every day. We have to talk TL,” he said.
MESSAGE OF 12 THOUSAND TL FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE UNDER THE CONDITION OF CONVENIENCE FOR THE EMPLOYER
Another name that spoke to Sozcu.com.tr, the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Turkey Services Assembly Chairman of the Board of Directors Hüseyin Bozdağ, said that they are already having difficulty finding employees for 8,500 TL, so the new minimum wage is 10 thousand TL, he said that in the case of a new situation, they could pay it, but if new facilities are provided to the employer, this amount could increase up to 12 thousand TL.
DISC SIGNED 17 THOUSAND TL
As the second meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission regarding the provisional increase ended today, the recommendations regarding the minimum wage came from DİSK.
Explaining his proposals at the press conference held at the DİSK headquarters, President Arzu Çerkezoğlu pointed to the poverty line announced by BİSAM last, saying: “When the minimum wage is determined, if two people work in one house, they are must guarantee that the income is above the poverty line”.
The poverty line data announced by BİSAM four days ago was 34 thousand 838 TL.
Accordingly, DİSK stated that the minimum wage should be at least 17 thousand.
Speaking to SZC TV after the meeting, Çerkezoğlu pointed to the same figure and repeated his demand that “when two people in a family work, money should come into the house at least as much as the poverty line.”
WHEN THE MINISTRY OF LABOR SAYS ‘500 DOLLARS’, 9 THOUSAND TL IS 750
President Tayyip Erdoğan, who declared that they would review the minimum wage before the last elections, clearly said: “There is a provisional increase in the minimum wage in July.”
Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, made clear statements about the minimum wage increase in July, as well as giving a figure on how much it would be.
In early May, “We made an adjustment in January that brought it to the highest level of more than $455 dollars in the history of the Republic. We will do the same in July,” Bilgin said, adding: “The fee will be approximately $500. Our work is done, ”he said.
While Bilgin was making this speech, $500 corresponded to 9,750 TL, as of today, $500 has exceeded 10,400 TL due to the acceleration of the increase in the dollar exchange rate after the elections.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, consisting of 15 people, including five representatives of the employee, the employer and the government, determines the minimum wage. The Commission is convened by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and meets four times by custom, as part of the work to determine the new minimum wage.
