The strike initiated by the workers of the Tez-Koop-İş Union at the Istanbul Development Agency on May 8 ended with an agreement on the 39th.

The 39-day strike by the Tez-Koop-İş Union at the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA), one of the development agencies operating under the coordination of the General Directorate of Development Agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, resulted in in a win.

According to the collective agreement signed between the Tez-Koop-İş Union and YERELSEN, the salaries of the employees increased by 30 percent in the first six months of the first year.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Employees of the Istanbul Development Agency, organized in the Tez-Koop-İş Union, went on strike on May 8, rejecting the offer of the employers’ union YEREL-SEN, in the fifth month of collective negotiations that began in December 2022.

In the statement of the strike decision, the union stated that according to the data of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, which is among the constituents of ISTKA, inflation in Istanbul is 92.97 percent and that they will not accept the offer. from the employer that creates a loss of wages.

Employees of the Istanbul Development Agency, who had been on strike for 39 days, left the collective bargaining table with an agreement on June 15.

30 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS

ISTKA workers received a 30 percent raise in the first six months of the first year. Net food aid 110 liras, road aid 1,208 liras, housing aid 3,500 liras, regional aid 1,500 liras. However, workers will receive a bonus of 50 days the first year and 60 days the second year.

In addition, for each year of seniority, a monthly severance payment of TL 146/Net will be charged for specialized personnel, TL 110/Net for support personnel and TL 73/Net for permanent workers. While holiday allowance will increase to 715 TL net at ISTKA, 2,300 TL will be paid annually for security, driver and cleaning staff.

‘IT WILL SET AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL WORKPLACES’

Assessing the ISTKA strike, the general secretary of the TEZ-KOOP-İŞ union, Hakan Bozkurt, stated that this was the first strike at a public workplace in a long time.

Bozkurt said: “It is very important that workers leave the collective bargaining table with profits after a 39-day strike at a public workplace where white-collar workers dominate and perform high-quality and prestigious work. This achievement achieved under the leadership of our union TEZ-KOOP-İŞ will be an example for all development agencies and all workplaces in our line of business.”
