Order alert to e-commerce sites

The Ministry of Commerce announced that an administrative fine of 9 million 252 thousand 704 TL was imposed on 6 companies that canceled online orders without any explanation or claiming that the ordered products were not in stock.

This sanction occurred as a consequence of the inspections carried out in the first 5 months of 2023. In 2022, it was stated that 46 companies were fined 41.2 million TL.

INCREASE IN COMPLAINT REQUESTS

In the statement made by the Ministry, in recent days, the news in traditional and social media and the requests submitted to the ministry; It has been pointed out that there has been an increase in complaints for cancellation of orders made in the environment of electronic commerce due to the increase in exchange rates and prices.

The statement, which emphasized that the necessary investigations and inspections have been initiated in relation to this matter, continued as follows:

“In this context, in the letter sent to the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and the Federation of Turkish Traders and Craftsmen by the Ministry in order to inform companies operating in the sector, the cancellation of the contract from a distance by the seller due to the sale of a product that is out of stock or without any justification is prohibited by Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection, it has been indicated that the pertinent provisions of the Contract Regulations are being violated.

In the aforementioned article, it was also warned that the administrative sanctions provided for in Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection will be applied with respect to transactions and practices that are contrary to the provisions of the relevant legislation as a result of examinations and inspections. made by the Ministry.
