Retail sales remained stable in the eurozone

Retail sales in the euro zone were unchanged in April compared to the previous month.

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published retail sales data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone for April.

Consequently, retail sales in the EU increased by 0.1 percent in April compared to the previous month and decreased by 2.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

Retail sales in the Euro Zone, for their part, remained stable in April compared to March, and decreased 2.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

HIGHEST FALL IN SLOVAKIA

Among the EU countries, the largest decrease in retail sales in April compared to the previous month was registered in Slovakia with 5.8%, Romania with 3.7% and Slovenia with 2.4%.

Retail sales fell 12.6 percent in Hungary, 10 percent in Estonia and 9.8 percent in Slovakia on an annual basis. (AA)
