Card payments increased 119 percent year-over-year in April
According to data from the Interbank Card Center (BKM), the total amount of payments made in April with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards increased by 119 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 544 billion TL.

Thus, at the end of April, the figure of 105.8 million credit cards, 176.1 million debit cards and 77.3 million prepaid cards was reached in Turkey.
Compared to April 2022, the number of credit cards increased 19%, the number of debit cards 14%, and the number of prepaid cards increased 27%.
The total number of cards reached 359.3 million, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
INCREASE OF 114 PERCENT IN PAYMENTS BY CREDIT CARD
The total amount of payments made by credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in April increased by 119 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached TL 544 billion.
While 422.3 billion TL of card payments were made with credit cards, 112.5 billion TL of debit cards and 9.4 billion TL of prepaid cards were used.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the growth rate in credit card payments was 114 percent, while in debit card payments it was 145 percent, this rate was 105 percent in payments made with prepaid cards.
Transactions with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards increased 24 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In April 2023, 55 percent of card payment transactions were made with credit cards, 39 percent with debit cards, and 6 percent with prepaid cards.
AMOUNT OF INTERNET CARD PAYMENTS INCREASES 120 PERCENT
While the growth of transactions made with credit and prepaid cards was 21 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, this rate was 30 percent in transactions made with debit cards.
The number of online card payments increased by 120 percent in April compared to the same period of the previous year and reached TL 148.6 billion. The share of online card payments in total card payments, which was 25.5 percent in April last year, reached 26.6 percent.
1 TL out of every 3 TL credit card payment was made with business cards. The share of contactless transactions in card payments was 74.4%. (AA)
