Electoral delay due to rising bread

The price of wheat was not announced so that bread would not increase

An electoral postponement was applied to the rise in bread.

The declaration of the minimum price of wheat, which the farmer was waiting for, was left after the elections so that there would be no rise in bread before the elections.

Seed Platform Mine founder Ataman said rising bread prices were behind the non-disclosure of wheat prices.

Stating that the price was not revealed to avoid a price increase before the elections, Ataman stated that if the price were announced, 200 grams of bread could increase from 5 lira to 7 or 8 lira.

Ataman said: “The minimum wage, increases in electricity, natural gas and fuel have increased the cost of bread extraordinarily. There is great pressure to go up. When the price of wheat is announced after the election, an increase in bread will be inevitable, the price of 200 grams of bread may go up to 7 or even 8 TL,” he said.

‘WHEN WHEAT PRICES ARE ANNOUNCED, THE HIGH WILL BE INVISIBLE’

Ataman said that 35 percent of the cost of bread is due to flour, and even TMO-supported flour cannot prevent bread from going up to 7 or 8 lira with the purchase price of wheat increasing to 10.5 lira. or more.

Noting that the rise in flour will trigger the rise in bread, Ataman said: “TMO is still providing state-backed affordable flour to bakeries so bread prices don’t go any higher. However, with the announcement of the new wheat price, all balances will quickly turn higher, and the increase will be inevitable. For this reason, we think that the price has not been announced to delay the next rise in bread”.

100 MILLION BREAD

Stating that every 1 cent increase in flour directly affects the price of bread, Ataman said: “Although the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry said that the wheat has not yet been harvested, the prices have not been announced for this reason, the first wheat harvests have arrived. It has already been done in Mardin and Adana.”

Ataman stated that 100 million loaves of bread are produced daily in Turkey, of which approximately 50 million are regular breads, and that the new wheat price increase will also affect the support that will apply to approximately 5 million tons of affordable wheat annually.

Ataman said: “Last year, 7.50 lire was given to wheat flour, which was 4.55 lira. 10 million 500 thousand tons of wheat have been damaged by the TMO in 21 months at an affordable price”, he said.
