Industrialists want a new program ‘fit for the economy’
While the result of the Second Presidential Round was eagerly awaited, the industrialist demanded that a “new program suitable for the economy” come to power.
Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Chairman Seyit Ardıç said that in order to get rid of the problems in the economy, the government should promptly initiate reforms, implement the economic program in accordance with the economic understanding and take measures to restore the lost reputation of institutions
Ardıç also stressed that the Central Bank must become independent to be successful in fighting inflation.
MONTHLY INFLATION HAS BEEN RISING FOR 52 MONTHS AGO
Ardıç said that immediately after the elections, attention should be on the economy and the investment environment should be improved.
Ardıç, who warned that too much regulation in the money markets caused uncertainty in the investment decisions of the real sector in an environment where monthly inflation continued to rise for 52 months, said: “We have very serious problems in accessing financing. We hope that the new government will implement a stable, holistic and economic program as soon as possible for the recovery of the economy, ”he said.
Stating that the foreign trade deficit, the current account deficit and the foreign debt have increased, and there has been a deterioration in the public balance, Arınç said that fiscal discipline must be urgently guaranteed considering the principle of transparency.
Noting that the independence and prestige of the Central Bank are very important in the fight against inflation, Ardıç said: “The quality of the institutions is the prerequisite for success. It has become an urgent need to first resurrect merit and reassure institutions in the eyes of the public.
NOTICE OF IMPORTATION AND EXTERNAL OPENING
Stating that they managed to increase both industrial production and exports despite difficult conditions, Ardıç drew attention to the rapidly increasing imports and foreign trade deficit.
Ardıç said: “Exports increased by 2.5 percent in the January-March period of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports increased by 11 percent. The foreign trade deficit increased by more than 30 percent to $35 billion. The ratio of exports to imports decreased compared to last year and became 64 percent. We see the reflections of the weak technology situation here,” he said.
THE VALLEY OF ANKARA
Ardıç said that in the selection of the IT Valley location, Ankara’s advantages were ignored and Kocaeli was preferred.
Ardıç said: “Ankara is the most suitable city for the Information Valley with the best universities in the country, sectors using advanced technology such as defense, electronics and machinery industry, active technopolises and technoparks. The fact that the software industry is concentrated in Ankara and its qualified human resources show that Ankara is the most suitable province for this cluster. It would be appropriate to establish the Valley of Information in Ankara as well.”
