The Turkish Statistical Institute published the Youth newsletter with statistics for 2022.

According to the results of the Address Based Population Registration System (ADNKS), while the total population of Turkey was 85 million 279 thousand 553 at the end of 2022, the youth population in the age group 15-24 years was 12 million 949 thousand 817.

The youth population constituted 15.2 percent of the total population. 51.2 percent of the young population were men, while 48.8 percent were women.

Based on population projections, the share of young people in the total population is forecast to decline to 14.0 percent in 2030, 13.4 percent in 2040, 11.8 percent in 2060, and 11.1 percent in 2080.

THE YOUTH POPULATION IN Türkiye IS HIGHER THAN IN EUROPE

Turkey’s youth population ratio was noted to be 15.2 percent, which is higher than the youth population rates of 27 European Union (EU) member countries. When looking at the youth population ratios of 27 EU member countries, the average youth population in 2022 was 10.5 percent.

Among the EU member states, the countries with the highest youth population rate are Ireland with 12.8%, the Netherlands with 12.3% and Denmark with 12.2%, while the countries with the lowest youth population rate are 9.1%, respectively. Czech Republic with 9.3 percent, Slovenia and Latvia with 9.4 percent.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT WAS 25.2 PERCENT IN 2002

While the youth unemployment rate was 22.6 percent in 2021, it became 19.4 percent in 2022. While the unemployment rate for young men was 19.4 percent in 2021, it was 16 .4% in 2022.

While the rate of young people who neither study nor work was 24.7% in 2021, it rose to 24.2% in 2022. Although the rate of young men who neither studied nor worked was 17.5% in 2021, it was 16.4% in 2022.

Based on the results of the household labor force survey, the youth labor force participation rate was 41.7 percent in 2021 and 43.8 percent in 2022. While the youth force participation rate labor force of young men was 53.1% in 2021, it was 56.2% in 2022.

MOST YOUNG PEOPLE ARE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY

According to the results of the household labor force survey, the employment rate of the youth population increased from 32.2 percent in 2021 to 35.3 percent in 2022. While the employment rate of young men it was 42.8% in 2021, it was 46.9% in 2022, while the employment rate of young women was 21.2% in 2021, it became 23.2% in 2022.

When the employment of the youth population is analyzed by sector, it is observed that 15.1 percent of employed youth are in the agricultural sector, 31.4 percent in the industrial sector and 53.5 percent in the services sector.

It is observed that 14.0 percent of employed young men are in the agricultural sector, 36.7 percent in the industrial sector, 49.3 percent in the service sector, while 17.5 percent percent of young women are in agriculture and 20.3 percent in industry. in the services sector.
