British economy grew 0.1 percent in the first quarter of the year
The British economy was reported to have grown by 0.1 percent in the first quarter of this year.
In the statement from the British National Statistics Office (ONS), it was recorded that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 0.1 percent in the first quarter of this year.
The growth of the country’s economy in the first quarter was in line with the expectations of economists. In the ONS statement, it was noted that the country’s GDP contracted 0.3 percent in March this year.
‘HE MADE THE FALL’
In the statement, ONS chief statistics officer Darren Morgan said: “In the first quarter, the information technology (IT) and construction sector led growth and offset declines in areas such as healthcare, education and public administration that were affected by the strikes.
Huw Herriman, UK Minister of State for Railways, told Times Radio: “Previously, the Bank of England (BoE) had made a more pessimistic forecast (for the first quarter of the year). (0 percent) This growth is quite positive. (AA)
