According to the results of the Household Workforce Survey; The number of unemployed aged 15 and over increased by 4,000 in March 2023 compared to the previous month and reached 3,508,000 people.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at 10 percent. While the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent for men, it was estimated at 13.8 percent for women.

OCCUPANCY RATE 48.2 PERCENT

The number of employed persons increased by 37,000 people in March compared to the previous month, reaching 31,462,000 people, while the employment rate remained unchanged at 48.2 percent. While this rate was 66.0 percent for men, it was 30.7 percent for women.

In March 2023, the labor force increased by 41 thousand people compared to the previous month and reached 34 million 970 thousand people, while the labor participation rate remained unchanged at 53.6 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 71.9 percent for men, it was 35.7 percent for women.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES

The unemployment rate among the youth population covering the age group of 15 to 24 years became 20.1 percent with an increase of 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous month. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated at 15.2 percent for men and 28.9 percent for women.

The average weekly effective working time, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, of the employed during the reference period fell by 0.2 hours compared to the previous month and became 44.5 hours.

WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT 21.8 PERCENT

The rate of underemployment by time, potential labor force and unemployed (broad definition unemployment) rose to 21.8 percent, a decrease of 1.6 percentage points in March compared to the previous month.

While the combined rate of underemployment due to insufficient hours and unemployment was 15.1 percent, the combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force was estimated at 17.2 percent.
