‘All the cases have concluded in favor of ENAG’

ENAG: To date, all cases have been resolved in favor of ENAG

The Independent Research Group on Inflation (ENAG) has been publishing consumer and producer price indices since September 2020. However, the inflation figures in ENAG’s calculations to date differ from the TURKSTAT data. ENAG and TURKSTAT recently announced inflation data for April.

While TURKSTAT announced inflation of 2.39 percent in April, ENAG put the April figure at 4.86 percent. Annual consumer price inflation was 43.68 percent according to TURKSTAT and 105.19 percent according to ENAG.

ENAG, in a statement made today on social networks, opposed TÜİK’s statement of ‘several people working at the desk…’, stating that all the lawsuits filed so far have resulted in its favor, and returned to claim that TÜİK has actual inflation figures are not published.

“WE ARE BASED ON THE SAME BASKET AND WEIGHTS OF TURKSTAT”

These are ENAG’s publications on Twitter:

* “ENAG obtains the price and price variations of all items and products in the inflation basket since September 2020, on a daily basis, and presents them on a monthly and annual basis. In doing this, it is based on the same TURKSTAT basket and weights.

* Up to now, it has ensured its continuity and has made an effort to provide the public with real inflation data. On the other hand, he was constantly harassed by TUIK and sued many times. To date, all cases have been resolved in favor of ENAG.

* Despite all these facts, the fact that TURKSTAT decision makers keep describing ENAG with the phrase ‘some people working at the desk…’ saddens us and the people who feel inflation most deeply in your kitchen.

“THE COST OF LIVING IS NOT CLEARLY REFLECTED IN THE DATA”

* One of the primary duties of the state is to correctly inform the public (with statistics). TURKSTAT, the public, ENAG and even the valuable legal persons who decide the cases know very well that the data is not correct and is not presented correctly. The cost of living is clearly not reflected in the data.

* As ENAG, we will advise the directors of TURKSTAT, one of the few institutions in our state:

– Present the data we think you have collected in a healthy way

– Don’t be fooled by the ‘we are audited by EuroSTAT’ approach. They also know the problems.

– Do not add the defamation of other institutions to the defense of wrongdoing, and

– Don’t get political!

TurkStat: WE WORK ACCORDING TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

TurkStat, on the other hand, posted a statement on its official website titled ‘Public Announcement on the Turkish Statistical Institute’s data reliability claims’. In the statement, it was stated that no lawsuit was filed against TÜİK and that the institution was not a party to the lawsuit filed by DİSK. The statement made by TÜİK continued as follows:

* “Methods related to statistical research carried out by TURKSTAT are determined taking into account Eurostat regulations/manuals and/or guidance documents of other international organizations, European Union (EU) regulations, EU statistical legislation, in line with these international cooperation activities that have been implemented. for many years. In addition, cooperation with foreign and domestic experts is carried out and study visits are carried out within the scope of studies through EU Projects. Therefore, detailed information on the methods to be used is collected by examining the practices of other countries and, in the light of all this information, they are integrated into the studies and implement methods according to international standards.

“NO CASE HAS BEEN OPENED AGAINST TURKSTAT”

* In addition to this, the statistics produced by TURKSTAT are also audited by Eurostat and the United Nations, IMF, OECD, ILO, etc. It also works in collaboration with many organizations. The indicators related to our country produced in the field of official statistics are followed by many international organizations not only in terms of data but also in terms of data quality. Therefore, there is no doubt in international institutions about the quality of the statistics produced by TURKSTAT. On the other hand; As stated in detail in our public announcement dated 26.04.2023 regarding the news about ‘We won the case we opened for TURKSTAT’, no lawsuit has been filed against TURKSTAT on this issue, our institution is not a party to the aforementioned lawsuit and a sentence presented to our Institution in the next few days, in case of ruling, it is clear that the legally necessary measures will be taken in accordance with the information contained in the sentence.

“TUIK IS AMONG THE MOST TRANSPARENT INSTITUTIONS IN THE WORLD”

* Besides; As of 2023, TURKSTAT compiles approximately 564,710 prices for 404 items and 895 types of items from 27,411 workplaces and 5,246 residences (rentals) from 228 districts of Turkey’s 81 provinces every month. It should be known that it is not possible to realistically calculate the official statistics produced by TURKSTAT with its wide organizational structure, technical possibilities, budget and personnel throughout Turkey, by groups that do not have any international accreditation on a desk and with a team of a few people . As can be understood from all these matters explained; Producing statistics comparable to international norms and standards for determining national and international social and economic development goals and measuring the success of these goals, TurkStat is among the most transparent institutions in the world in all the processes it carries out.
