Inflation in the euro area rose to 7 percent

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published the main inflation data for the Eurozone for April.

Consequently, annual inflation in the Eurozone, which was 6.9 percent in March, rose to 7 percent in April.

In the Euro Zone, the CPI rose 0.7 percent in April compared to the previous month.

Market expectations were for annual inflation to be 7 percent and monthly inflation to be 0.9 percent in the euro area in April.

Looking at the main components of inflation, the highest annual inflation was 13.6 percent in food, alcohol and tobacco products.

While food was followed by non-energy industrial products with 6.2 percent and services with 5.2 percent, energy products decreased by 2.5 percent.
