Foreign trade deficit increased 44 percent in April

The main foreign trade data of the Ministry of Commerce for April 2023 has been announced.

Consequently, exports in April decreased 17.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and fell to 19.3 billion dollars. In the same period, imports fell 4.5 percent to $28.2 billion.

In the period January-April 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year; While exports decreased 3 percent to 80 thousand 874 million dollars; imports increased 7.2 percent and reached 124 thousand 412 million dollars.

The foreign trade deficit widened 44 percent on-year to $8.8 billion in April.

ENERGY IMPORTS DECREASED 35.8 PERCENT

In April 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year;

* The ratio of exports to imports decreased by 10.6 points to 68.6 percent.

* Excluding energy data, the ratio of exports to imports decreased by 22.2 points to 78.6 percent.

* Excluding energy and gold data, the ratio of exports to imports decreased by 20.2 points to 82.5 percent.

In April, total energy imports fell 35.8 percent with prices falling to $5 billion.

Gold imports, which had a significant impact on rising imports recently, weakened from the first quarter of the year, but increased 174 percent from a year earlier to $1.3 billion.

Other items that stood out in imports were motor land vehicles with an increase of 1,200 million dollars, electrical machinery with an increase of 663 million dollars and other machinery with an increase of 360 million dollars.
