Those who go to work by bike will charge

Those who cycle to work in Belgium will receive money

In Belgium, with the agreement between the employers’ and workers’ representatives at the level of the National Labor Council, it became mandatory to give a bicycle allowance to those who cycle to work.

Consequently, from May 1, employees will receive a subsidy of 0.27 euros per kilometer from their employer if they cycle to work. This bonus will be tax exempt.

An employee’s daily bicycle allowance cannot exceed 40 kilometers. Thus, the bicycle allowance will be limited to 10.8 euros per day.

Until now, employers could decide on the bicycle subsidy. In this context, approximately 30 percent of employers paid their employees who use bicycles according to the distance between their homes and workplaces.

With the new application, it is expected that the use of the bicycle in the country will be generalized. (AA)
