Minister Institution: Do not increase your income more than 25 percent
Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum weighed in on rent increases at the show he attended today in Kanal D, after announcing that regulations limiting rent increases to 25 percent would be extended.
After the announcement that the regulations that limit the increase in rentals for homes to 25 percent and that will expire on July 1 will be extended, the Minister Institution has once again ruled on the exorbitant increases in rents.
“INVEST 25 PERCENT AND CONTINUE”
The Minister made the following statements in the institution’s statement:
“There are those who want to rent their house at exorbitant prices, of course, these are exceptions. They cannot legally make the increase above the limit. If your landlord asks for an increase of more than 25 percent, put 25 percent of your rent in the bank and move on. This process is temporary, the market will settle. We have given certain supports and exemptions. The market will return to normal.
BOZDAĞ SAID THE SANCTIONS WILL BE IN THE FUTURE
Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ also stated that the 25 percent rent increase limit will be extended and announced that efforts are underway to impose penalties on exorbitant rent increases. Bozdağ stated that prison sentence is also on the agenda.
Bozdag had this to say on the subject:
“This term will be extended. There is a case of sanctions. When you fail to impose a penalty, people may risk increased consequences even if the lawsuit is found in their favor. If there is a prison sentence or a judicial administrative fine, then people are more careful about compliance with this prohibition. On the one hand, an extension of the deadline is on the agenda.
THE OWNERS DID NOT FOLLOW THE REGULATION
According to the Obligations Law, which is the basis of the rental law, although the rental increase rate is based on the average 12-month CPI, measures were taken last year as a result of the sharp increase in the prices of rent, and since July, residential rent increases have been capped at 25 percent.
However, after the regulation, the increase in the income of the owners remained well below the official inflation, which reached 84.39 percent last year, so the upward limitation provoked the reaction of the owners .
In fact, many landlords have broken this practice and made increases in parallel with the general increase in the housing rental market.
