EU countries will continue duty-free trade with Ukraine

The member states of the European Union (EU) approved the regulation, which provides for extending the application, which eliminates customs duties and quotas on all products imported from the country, for 1 year to provide economic support to Ukraine.

In the publication made on the official social media account of the president of the European Union, Sweden, it was indicated that the ambassadors of the member states accepted the extension of the temporary trade liberalization agreement, which provides trade concessions to the country within the scope of the EU- Ukraine Association Agreement.

In the post, it was noted that this application will provide support to the Ukrainian economy.

Therefore, import tariffs, quotas and other trade defense measures on all products that Ukraine will export to EU countries will be suspended for 1 year.

Said regulation entered into force for one year last year. It was proposed to extend this for another year.

FARMERS ARE REACTIVE

After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian War and the impossibility of shipping from Black Sea ports for a long time, a significant amount of Ukrainian grain and food products began to be shipped overland to Central and Eastern European countries.

The suspension of taxes and restrictions on agricultural products from Ukraine provoked reactions from farmers in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

Farmers in the countries of the region have long wanted to stop importing cheap agricultural products from Ukraine.

These countries decided last week to impose a temporary ban on grain and food from Ukraine.

To address the concerns of countries banning grain imports from Ukraine, the EU Commission has prepared a plan that includes providing additional support to farmers if goods are allowed to transit and placing restrictions on some Ukrainian products. (AA)
