Tourism revenue increased 32.3 percent in the first quarter
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the Tourism Statistics for the first quarter of 2023.
Tourism revenues increased 32.3 percent in the first quarter, which consists of January, February and March, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and reached 8,690,505,000 dollars. 20.8 percent of the income from tourism was obtained from citizens residing abroad who visited our country.
Of the expenses incurred in this quarter, $7,503,255,000 dollars were personal expenses and $1,187,249,000 dollars were combined travel expenses.
INCREASED NUMBER OF VISITORS
The number of visitors that left our country increased 26.8 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 8 million 181 thousand 566 people. 20.4 percent of the visitors were citizens residing abroad with 1,672,332 people.
In this quarter, the average cost per night of visitors who left our country was 84 dollars. The average cost per night of citizens residing abroad was 69 dollars.
In this quarter, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, spending on sports, education, and culture increased by 116.5 percent, and spending on tourist packages (the part that remains in our country) increased by 83.4 percent. percent and tourist services expenses increased by 82.1 percent.
Visitors visited our country with 46.6% mostly for “walks, entertainment, sports and cultural activities”. “Visiting family and friends” ranked second with 32.4 percent, and “shopping” ranked third with 8.5 percent.
Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to our country mostly with the purpose of “visiting family and friends” with 72.1%.
INCREASE IN TOURISM SPENDING
Tourism spending, which consists of the expenses of our citizens who reside in the country and visit other countries, increased by 110.5 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 1 billion 400 million 108 thousand dollars. $1 trillion 149 million 53 thousand of this was personal and $251 million 55 thousand was package travel expenses.
The number of citizens who visited abroad in this quarter increased by 99 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 2 million 69 thousand 229. Their average expenditure per person was $677.
