baklava maker İbrahim Halil Özer at Edirne Locksmiths Bazaar before the Ramadan party; “I have been here for 25 years, I have never seen such lousy work. A kilo of baklava costs 100 lira the cheapest. A kilogram of walnut baklava costs 100 lira, pistachio baklava costs 200 lira, pistachio wrap costs 300 lira, homemade baklava costs 180 lira,” he said.

Before Eid al-Fitr, baklava makers were worried about not being able to take orders.

Shopkeeper İbrahim Halil Özer said that locals in the city could not buy baklava because they had no purchasing power, and because of the exchange rate difference, tourists from Bulgaria who came to the city to buy bought baklava.

“WE DO NOT TAKE ORDERS AT THE MOMENT”

Ibrahim Halil Özer said:

“I have been here for 25 years, I have never seen such lousy work. Why, the economy collapsed. People have no purchasing power. A kilo of baklava costs 100 lira the cheapest. The Turks can’t even stand it. Unless foreigners come, our work does not happen. We are in a difficult situation right now.

Baklava prices increased a bit, but we did not increase. It should be 120-130 lira, but we sell it for 100 lira. A kilogram of walnut baklava costs 100 lira, pistachio baklava 200 lira, pistachio wrap 300 lira, homemade baklava 180 lira, mussel 220 lira. There was a pandemic last vacation, not much, but it was there two years ago. We haven’t received any orders yet.” (PHOENIX)
