CHP’s Mahmut Tanal, who visited the cotton processing plant in his hometown of Şanlıurfa, where he is a parliamentary candidate, said the manufacturer sells cotton for 12 lira in the market, which costs 16 lira per kilogram. Tanal stated that the producers and farmers were victimized by the government.

CHP Şanlıurfa deputy candidate Tanal, who visited the cotton processing plant in Yaylak town of Bozova district, said that the Şanlıurfa cotton farmer received no support. Stating that input costs in cotton are very high, Tanal drew attention to the fact that there are no customers in the city even below cost.

Stating that cotton, which costs 16 lira per kilogram in Şanlıurfa, sells for 12 lira in the market, Tanal said: “Citizens produce here at a loss. We need to support both our farmers and our growers,” he said.

Underlining that cotton should have a base price in Şanlıurfa, Tanal said: “Just as tea and hazelnuts have a base price in the Black Sea, cotton should have a base price in Şanlıurfa and peanuts should have a base price. My fellow citizens from Şanlıurfa are victims because the production base price is not given in this way.”
