As reported by Caixin, the Chinese economic and financial news service, the French shipping company CMA CGM has reached an agreement with the State Shipbuilding Corporation of China (CSSC) for the construction of 16 large container ships.

The deal, worth a total of $3.2 billion, is the largest volume ship order the Chinese company has received in one go.

Within the framework of the agreement, 12 ships with a capacity of 23 thousand TEU, 4 and 15 thousand TEU will be delivered to the French company.

The ships will be built at CSSC shipyards in Shanghai and Dalian, China.

Headquartered in Marseille, CMA CGM has a transport capacity of 3.41 million TEUs with its fleet of 606 container ships. The company had become the third largest shipping company in the world, surpassing China’s Cosco with its capacity increase during the Covid-19 epidemic period.

The company, which ordered 12 ships with a capacity of 13,000 TEUs from a shipyard in South Korea in February, added 101 new ships with a total capacity of 920,000 TEUs to its fleet and aims to catch up with the Danish company’s current capacity. AGREEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE IN CIVIL AVIATION

During the visit of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to China, agreements were also made in the civil aviation sector between the two countries.

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has announced that it will double its production capacity by adding a new assembly line to its factory in Tianjin, China.

According to the agreements announced by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, who was in the business delegation that participated in Macron’s visit, the Beijing administration approved the purchase of 160 Airbus passenger planes by Chinese companies. .
