Food prices in the world have been declining for 12 months, increasing in Turkey

World food prices decreased 2.9 percent in March compared to the previous month. Food prices fell 20.5 percent below the highest level recorded last year with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In Turkey, by contrast, the rise in food prices continued this month.

The World Food Price Index, compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which tracks monthly changes in the prices of grains, oilseeds, dairy products, meat and sugar fell to 126.9 in March from a revised 129.7 in February.

The index fell to its lowest level since July 2021 in March.

FOOD INFLATION IN Türkiye 67.78 PERCENT

According to the March consumer inflation data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s CPI rose 2.29 percent in March compared to the previous month and 50.51 percent compared to the previous month. the same month of the previous year. Food inflation, for its part, was 67.78 per year and 3.84 per month in March.

HIGH WALKING CHAMPIONS FROM FOOD

According to TURKSTAT, the products with the highest price increase in March compared to the previous month were food. Thus, beef was the champion of the rise with 19.99 percent, while “deli and other varieties of meat” came in second with 15.16 percent. ‘Eggs and egg-related products’ ranked third with an increase of 11.16 percent.
