Port company EPM Terminals will double its container capacity at Amaliahaven on the Maasvlakte. Port economics researcher Bert Kuipers of Erasmus University Rotterdam calls this good news. The owner of EPM Terminals, the Danish Maersk, complains that container transport prices are under pressure. This is because demand from post-corona China is growing less rapidly than expected. There is growth in all scenarios.’ This means that the new terminals to be built will remain well filled.

Incidentally, Maersk has initiated construction of a large warehouse on Maasvlakte II at the southern end of Amaliahaven. The container shipping company, which also provides other logistics services, is building a 35,000-metre refrigerated/freezer warehouse and a 23,000-square-metre so-called “cross-dock warehouse” here.
