3 different rates on meat prices in Istanbul
When LOSE member markets in Istanbul set prices for meat during Ramadan, 3 different rates emerged in the city.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Meat and Milk Authority and the Istanbul Association of Food and Necessary Items Retailers (PERDER) decided to work together to set meat prices in Ramadan.
As of today, the price of ground beef is 190 TL per kilogram and 210 TL per kilogram of ground beef has been sold in PERDER member markets.
Those who came to the Meat and Milk Institution, where minced meat sold for TL119 and cubed meat for TL129, demanded a new shop.
In butcher shops and markets that are not members of PERDER, minced meat sells for 320 lira and cubed meat for 350 lira.

THE PRICE OF MEAT AND SQUARE MEAT HAS BEEN FIXED
Faruk Güzeldere, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Association of Food and Necessary Retailers (Istanbul PERDER), shared the details of the pricing request.
Güzeldere said: “Recently, there has been a rapid upward movement in red meat prices. When we look at the price of a beef carcass, which was 126 liras in January, today it is almost 220 liras. “There is a 100 percent increase,” he said.
Güzeldere said, “Price volatility pushed us to find solutions,” saying, “As a result of the work we have done with the Meat and Dairy Institution, our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, on the occasion of the start of the month of Ramadan, we supply meat through the IHC to at least provide a benefit to our citizens, and we have reduced the price of minced meat to 190 TL. We have set the price of cubed meat at 210 TL. We start selling today at these prices for our members who have a butcher counter and are included in the campaign.”
‘RECENT HIGH INCREASES CANNOT BE EXPLAINED BY COST’
Güzeldere said: “Istanbul consumes about a third of the red meat in Turkey. We supply meat to Istanbul from Anatolia. To facilitate the supply from Anatolia here, when the meat arrived in Istanbul, it was delivered to our consumers at higher prices, along with its logistics and other inputs. The goal here is to try to reduce the rise and rush of meat with the supply in Anatolia. Recent speculative increases cannot be explained by cost,” he said.
“Earthquake areas represent very little of our animal population,” Güzeldere said. In the first week of the earthquake it was 30-40 liras, and in the last week about 30 more liras arrived. These cannot be explained by cost. “There are serious speculations,” she said.
DEFENSE OF ‘NO PROFITABILITY IN MEAT’
Güzeldere said: “We have no profitability in meat. During these periods, we are unable to make any profit or loss. Meat will not be delivered to companies that operate wholesale or commercially. Our goal is to reach the home pot. We will present it fully to our consumers. A limitation does not appear at this time. Our goal is to reach our citizens broadly and broadly. You can gain 1-2 kilos right now. We also tell our citizens, don’t stock up, there is no need. Let’s buy everything we need without disturbing the balance between supply and demand. If we do actions, we will enter into the rights of others, ”he said.
CITIZENS WANT TO CONTINUE THE FIXED PRICE
Customers who came to the market on the first day of the pricing application also expressed satisfaction with the prices.
Saadet Durmuş also said: “I think this price statement is good. Many people couldn’t buy meat anyway, they had problems. Nice arrangement, hope it stays that way. We are happy with the prices now. There wasn’t much buying, even if we did, we were trying to buy 100 lira, half a kilo or even less, like a meal or two. If it continues like this now, I think it will at least increase people’s purchasing power,” he said.
General Yusuf Özdoğan for buying on the market said: “If it holds at these prices, I think the fixing is good. We couldn’t get it before, but now maybe we can get some. I saw 260, 270 lire. I was amazed today when I saw the 210 lira. These prices won’t go down, but they better stay. But I don’t think so, let’s hope it stays,” he said.
‘LET THE OLD BE OPEN TO OTHER REGIONS OF ISTANBUL’
Yüksel Özcan, who came to the Meat and Milk Institution, said: “I came to buy mince, they say there is no mince. I drove an hour and a half, nothing in between. I have been victimized. It took me 3 hours to wait, there is no ground beef,” he said. Ramazan Şahin said: “There is one of these institutions on the European side. You come, you don’t go. 300 lira elsewhere, 100 lira here. There is nothing we can do for him,” he said.
Arzu Günaydın said: “I want places like this to open in other parts of Istanbul as well. Sometimes I come at half past 8, I was late today, I waited half an hour. We usually wait 2 hours. The prices are very reasonable. It’s really half the price of the butchers. I came with my daughter today, I bought 2 of them. For this price I can get 1 kilo at the butcher shop, here I get 2 kilos. I wish all the markets were at these prices, so that we could take the meat to our house and cook it,” he said. (DHA)
