Request for social workers to improve personal rights
General Health-İş Union made statements on World Social Work Day, which has been celebrated on the third Tuesday of March every year since 1983, drawing attention to the issues faced by social workers.
Stating that social work experience is one of the occupational groups that play an important role in the healing process from the earthquake disaster, General Health-İş union president Dr. Derya Uğur said: “In addition to professional problems of social workers, their economic and personal rights and their areas of work must be improved”.
EMPLOYMENT IS NOT ENOUGH
Underlining that a sufficient number of staff should be employed to reduce the workload of social workers, Dr. Uğur said, “Although there are thousands of social workers waiting for an appointment, it is not acceptable not to be appointed.”
Saying that “employees working in the social service branch, who have been deprived of their right to desertion, should be able to benefit from the 20 percent increase in fixed additional pay,” Uğur continued as follows:
“Our union Genel Sağlık-İş has a lawsuit filed with this request. There is a need to ensure that social workers receive base incentive pay and increasing wages, the lower of which is the poverty line. Social workers must enjoy living and working conditions in accordance with human dignity.
Hoping that the social work profession finds the value it deserves; We celebrate World Social Work Day for all our social workers who work for social justice and social equality.”
