Babacan privatization confession

Babacan privatization confession

DEVA party chairman Ali Babacan criticized privatizations carried out while he was minister.

Participating in a television program, Babacan made an assessment of the companies that had a monopoly after privatization, such as electricity distribution and natural gas distribution, saying that “privatization did not go well in those areas.”

Babacan said that the owners of the privatized companies deal with their affairs personally with the minister or the president, that these companies cannot be audited and therefore an expensive and bad service is provided to the citizens.

‘AFTER I NEEDED A VERY GOOD AUDIT’

Babacan said: “After the privatization, it had to continue with very good supervision,” Babacan said. Therefore, they cannot be controlled. When it cannot be controlled, the service to citizens is expensive and bad. If we had the wisdom we have today, we wouldn’t privatize them.”

‘IF YOU HAVE A FACTORY, CUSTOMIZE IT IMMEDIATELY’

On the other hand, Babacan said the following regarding the point in which they maintained the same position regarding privatizations as in the past:

“Today we are at the same point that: If the State has a factory that produces notepads, it must be privatized immediately. There are already 100 notepad manufacturers in the private sector, it will be 101. We don’t want the state to deal with them.”
