Consumer Rights Association (THD) announced that consumers in Turkey entered World Consumer Rights Day on March 15 with discontent.
THD Chairman Turhan Çakar, stating that both the state and companies in Turkey ignore the rights of consumers and violate their duties, said that consumers cannot achieve their rights such as health and safety, be informed, satisfy your basic needs, cover damages, prevent misleading and abusive advertisements, and live in a healthy environment.
Çakar reported that 98 percent of consumers are crushed below the hunger and poverty line.
THE MAJORITY IN GENERAL HAVE NUTRITION AND HOUSING PROBLEMS
Çakar said that the big disaster that occurred on February 6 is a clear proof that the government, governorates, municipalities, contractors and private building inspection companies do not fulfill their duties and responsibilities in the production and sale of houses to consumers.
Pointing out that the vast majority of consumers are unable to meet their basic needs, such as nutrition and housing, due to their poverty and low income, Çakar said that approximately 60 percent of the population in Turkey lives below the poverty line and the 38 percent live below the poverty line. he reported that the respondent rate reached 98 percent.
EXPLOIABLE ADS ARE COMMON
Çakar said that in accordance with the right to be informed about the characteristics and risks of many goods sold to consumers, especially food products, consumers do not receive accurate and complete information, and that many products that endanger health and safety consumers’ lives can be sold in the market.
Çakar listed other issues experienced by consumers as follows:
* “Because of the consumer’s right to be compensated for damages to purchased defective goods and services, when he wants a new one or the cost of defective goods, he faces the negative attitudes and behaviors of companies when he wants the defective service to renew.
* Misleading, deceptive and abusive product advertisements, which take place in many settings, especially on the Internet and in social media settings, are becoming more widespread.
* Natural environments such as forests, green areas, seas, lakes, streams, groundwater, air are polluted and the right of consumers to live in a healthy environment is violated, especially in the cities where consumers live.
