EU countries will reduce their energy consumption

The EU agrees to reduce energy consumption by 2030

The European Union (EU) has agreed to reduce final energy consumption in the union by 11.7 percent by 2030.

EU parliamentarians announced that this target will contribute to the fight against climate change and limit the use of Russian fossil fuels in Europe.

The deal was adopted after all-night talks between negotiators from EU member states and the European Parliament.

USE 11.7 PERCENT LESS THAN EXPECTED

“This[acuerdo]it will mean real change that is good for the climate but bad for Putin,” said Niels Fuglsang, the parliament’s chief negotiator.

The negotiators agreed that by 2030 the energy consumed by end users, such as homes and factories, should be 11.7 percent less than the expected use by that date.

From 2024 to 2030, member states must save an average of 1.49 percent per year in final energy consumption.

In EU countries, at least 3 percent of the total area of buildings belonging to public institutions will have to be renovated every year. (Reuters)
