In January 2023, the workforce increased by 188 thousand people compared to the previous month and went to 35 million 260 thousand people, while the labor participation rate increased 0.2 points to 54.1%. While the labor force participation rate was 72.5% for men, it was 36.1% for women.
The seasonally adjusted and calendar weekly average effective working hours of the employed during the reference period increased by 0.7 hours compared to the previous month and amounted to 44.9 hours in January 2023.
The idle labor force rate, made up of underemployment due to insufficient hours, potential and unemployed labor force, stood at 21.9% in January 2023, with an increase of 0.6 points compared to the previous month. While the combined rate of underemployment due to insufficient hours and the unemployed was 15.3%, the combined rate of potential labor and the unemployed was estimated at 16.7%.
