US grant program to reduce emissions in heavy industry

The US Department of Energy announced that the government has provided nearly $6 billion in funding to accelerate heavy industry decarbonization projects and give American manufacturers a competitive advantage in the emerging global clean energy economy.

The program will focus on high-emission sectors and other energy-intensive industrial sectors, where decarbonisation technologies such as iron and steel, aluminum and cement will have a major impact.

Noting that the industrial sector accounts for about a third of US carbon emissions, the release says that up to 50 percent of project costs will be covered by the program.

US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, whose views were included in the statement, called the program an “exciting” step in the race to decarbonize the country’s heavy industry, saying: “It will go a long way to help reduce pollution while keeping the US manufacturing sector strong and competitive.” she used her statements.

Noting that President Biden’s investments in clean energy transformation led the world in clean production technologies and created new economic opportunities in the US, Granholm stressed that he also supported the country’s industry. (AA)
