TEMPORARY WORKERS AWAITING STAFF

The unions demanded that the cadre promise for about 50,000 temporary workers who were employed for 10 months in a year and remained inactive for 2 months, be enacted before the parliamentary recess.

While Parliament is expected to take a break from work towards the end of March due to elections scheduled for May 14, unions continue to raise issues that will be resolved through legal settlements.

Eyüp Alemdar, Secretary General of Organization of TÜRK-İŞ and President of the Koop-İş Union, stated that there are different forms of employment in the public sector.

Emphasizing that among these states, contract labor and temporary labor are major problem areas waiting to be resolved, Alemdar said:

“Temporary work is a form of short-term employment. There is no temporary labor for 15-20 years. There are approximately 50,000 temporary workers who are employed for 10 months in a year and remain inactive for 2 months. We want these workers to have the cadre rights stipulated by the Public Framework Protocol before Parliament goes into recess due to the elections.”

Noting that approximately 31,000 of these workers are members of the Ministry of National Education, Alemdar said that “the authorities must promptly fulfill their promise of personnel to these dedicated members who work to ensure that education and training activities continue. in a healthy way”. and regularly in schools all over Turkey.” saying.

The president of the Öz Orman-İş union, Settar Aslan, pointed out that more than 14 thousand temporary workers are waiting for staff at the General Directorate of Forestry and said that this demand must be satisfied.

Recalling that the work period of temporary workers in the public sector was increased to 9 months and 29 days in 2019, Aslan said:

“The remaining 2 months have no cost to the state. We want our members to complete the remaining two months and work as permanent staff for 12 months. Staffing increases the morale, motivation and productivity of temporary workers. Our members who work for the green homeland all over Turkey are waiting for their paintings to be delivered to them as soon as possible.”

The president of the Şeker-İş union, İsa Gök, on the other hand, recalled that the labor rights of temporary workers are governed by the Public Framework Protocol and expressed that this provision should be implemented as soon as possible.
