After earthquake victims were exposed to exorbitant rent increases, the Ministry of Justice took action. The Ministry has started working on the law that provides prison sentences of 2 to 5 years for those who carry out exorbitant increases in the prices of products and rents during the period of the earthquake and the epidemic. While the study is seen as a positive step in identifying opportunistic hosts, it is said that it will remain incomplete in solving the problem.

The lawyer Onur Cingil, for his part, referred to the study in question and said: “Here are human rights valid for both parties, from the right to property to the right to housing. On the other hand, the origin of the main problem here is the economic situation. This is a temporary measure, a band-aid. Exorbitant prices aside, there is a situation here because of the fact that the owners cannot make a living, ”he said.
