Rents rise in one more province after the earthquake

After the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, rents also increased in Konya, one of the provinces where families from the region migrated to.

Reacting to the situation, Konya Chamber of Realtors Chairman Sedat Altınay said: “Rents have increased by 30-40 percent due to unofficial realtors and malicious landlords.”

After the earthquakes that affected 11 provinces with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 in Kahramanmaraş, the inhabitants of those regions migrated to different provinces.

Some of the earthquake victims who migrated to Konya began to live in the houses they rented. Turning this into opportunism, some real estate agents and homeowners began renting houses to earthquake victims at a price increase of 30-40 percent.

Explaining that an apartment with a rent of 5,000 lira rises to 7,000 lira, and a flat of 7,000 lira rises to 10,000 lira, Altınay said: “We see that advertisements for a detached duplex house or a villa with a garden they are up to par. 20 thousand lire. In those regions, they live in those houses for 7 thousand lire, ”he said.

‘NONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE A RISE ARE NOT REGISTERED REAL ESTATE’

Underlining that no real estate agent registered with the Chamber of Realtors has made a price increase, Altınay said that those who did the price increase were unofficial real estate agents and homeowners.

Altinay continued:

“Of course, our citizens are morally bankrupt. We are doing what is necessary to improve their morale even a little and make sure they can live in a warm environment.

‘WE CANNOT RENT THE HOUSES OF OWNERS WHO RAISED THE PRICE’

Meanwhile, there are those who support homeowners. There are supporters of our members from the Chamber of Realtors and the Konya Chamber of Commerce. Trust me, we don’t even ask for commission. We are doing everything possible and effort to settle our citizens with our own vehicles.

There are also malicious people. They certainly exist in our community, just like in any other segment.

There are places with a very high price range in places where citizens try to rent. We as Konya Chamber of Realtors do not rent the house of any owner who increases the price with all our members. We decided not to. Also, we have landlords who don’t even charge rent or demand half the rent.” (DHA)
