Unemployment rose in the last quarter of 2022
TURKSTAT October – December, 2022 Labor Force Statistics, IV. Quarterly statistics announced.
According to the results of the Household Workforce Survey; Number of unemployed aged 15 and over in 2022 IV. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of people increased by 148 thousand and went to 3 million 583 thousand people. The unemployment rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.2 points to 10.2 percent. The unemployment rate was estimated at 8.5 percent for men and 13.6 percent for women.
EMPLOYMENT RATE 48.4 PERCENT
Number of people employed in 2022 IV. Compared with the previous quarter, the occupancy rate increased by 565 thousand people to 31 million 460 thousand people and the occupancy rate went to 48.4 percent with an increase of 0.7 points. While this rate was 65.8 percent for men, it was 31.3 percent for women.
Labor Force 2022 IV. Compared to the previous quarter, 35 million 43 thousand people increased by 714 thousand people in the quarter, while the labor participation rate increased by 0.9 points to 53.9 percent. The labor force participation rate was 71.9 percent for men and 36.2 percent for women.
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES
The unemployment rate among the young population between 15 and 24 years old increased by 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous quarter and became 19.2 percent. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated at 15.8 percent for men and 25.5 percent for women.
56.8 percent of seasonally adjusted employment was in the service sector.
Seasonally adjusted number of people employed in 2022 IV. Compared to the previous quarter, an increase of 62 thousand people in the agricultural sector, 90 thousand people in the industrial sector, 57 thousand people in the construction sector and 356 thousand people in the service sector increased in the quarter compared to with the previous quarter. 15.7 percent of the employed were in agriculture, 21.4 percent in industry, 6.1 percent in construction, and 56.8 percent in the service sector.
Effective average weekly working day of the employed during the reference period, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, in 2022 IV. In the third quarter it increased 0.7 hours compared to the previous quarter and became 44.3 hours.
WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT 20.8 PERCENT
The rate of underemployment by time, potential labor and idle labor 2022 IV. Compared with the previous quarter, it decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 20.8 percent. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 14.5 percent, the combined rate of potential labor and unemployment was estimated at 16.9 percent.
