Energy agreement between Greece and Bulgaria

Energy agreement between Greece and Bulgaria

In Athens, where Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis met, two memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries, which provide for cooperation in the field of energy.

Greek Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas and Bulgarian Energy Minister Rossen Hristov on research studies to increase energy cooperation between the two countries, one for cooperation in natural gas supply and storage, and the other for the construction of a new pipeline that will “connect” the port of Alexandroupoli and Burgas signed two memorandums of understanding.

In the joint press release made after the meeting, Mitsotakis drew attention to the problems experienced in the supply of natural gas after the crisis in Ukraine and stated that it is important to gain independence from Russia and acquire different resources in this supply.

Emphasizing that under the MoU, Greek companies will have the opportunity to store natural gas at the Çiren facility in north-western Bulgaria, Miçotakis said that Bulgarian companies can also use Greece’s Revithusa facility to the same purpose. .

OIL PIPELINE WILL BE ESTABLISHED

Mitsotakis stated that the other MoU provided for the establishment of a new pipeline between Alexandroupoli and Burgas and that this line would also connect the Aegean and Black seas.

Bulgarian President Radev expressed his satisfaction that Bulgarian companies will have the opportunity to benefit from the Revithusa facilities.

Noting that the Burgaz-Alexandroupolis pipeline project to be worked on will contribute to Bulgaria in terms of energy diversity, Radev also noted that this line will be an alternative to oil tankers passing through the Bosphorus. (AA)
