Milk and cheese production decreased in 2022
The Statistical Institute of Turkey announced the production statistics for milk and dairy products for the period of December 2022.
Consequently, commercial dairy companies collected 796,400 tons of cow’s milk. The amount of cow’s milk collected by commercial dairy companies is 0.4 percent in December compared to the same month of the previous year; In the January-December period, it decreased 3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
YOGURT, BUTTER AND AYRAN PRODUCTION INCREASED, CHEESE PRODUCTION DECREASED
The production of yogurt increased by 9.4 percent, that of drinking milk by 6 percent and that of ayrán by 3.5 percent in December compared to the same month of the previous year; Butter production decreased by 16.7 percent and cow’s cheese production by 0.9 percent.
In the January-December period, butter production increased 12.8 percent, ayrán 6.9 percent, and yogurt 3.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year; Cow’s cheese production decreased by 4.5 percent and milk production for drinking decreased by 1.7 percent.
The amount of cow’s milk collected by commercial dairy companies, which in the previous month was 718,139 tons, increased 10.9 percent in December to 796,400 tons. Milk production for consumption, which in the previous month was 123,123 tons, increased 9 percent in December to 134,216 tons.
CHICKEN PRODUCTION DECREASED
In December, the production of chicken eggs increased 4.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year; Chicken meat production decreased by 2.7 percent, the number of chickens slaughtered by 5.1 percent and turkey meat production by 19.4 percent. In the January-December period, the number of slaughtered chickens increased by 8.4 percent, chicken meat production by 7.7 percent, turkey meat production by 4.6 percent, and egg production chicken by 2.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Chicken meat production, which was 200 thousand 77 tons in the previous month, increased 0.5 percent in December to 201 thousand 123 tons.
