The credit debt of 10 cities is 697 billion lira

The Agency for Banking Supervision and Regulation (BDDK) provided the opportunity of 6 months maturity and term for new and existing loans for citizens affected by the earthquakes that affected 10 provinces in Kahramanmaraş in total. The total credit debt of the 10 provinces, in which the Minister of Finance, Nabati, announced that additional loan facilities will be provided, reaches 696 thousand 958 million liras. Gaziantep, Adana and Hatay account for 67 percent of total loan liabilities, including non-performing loans. In 10 provinces, the total non-performing loans, called bad loans, reached 17.972 billion lira.

108.3 BILLION INDIVIDUAL DEBT

According to data from BRSA Fintürk, at the end of 2022, households in 10 earthquake-affected provinces had a consumer loan debt of TL 108.393 billion, consisting of housing, vehicle and consumer loans. 4.8 billion lira of this debt consists of vehicles, 32.8 billion lira for housing, 63 billion lira for necessities, and the remaining 7.7 billion lira for overdraft accounts. The credit debt of companies in these provinces reaches 570 thousand 592 million liras. While 14.18 billion lira of non-performing loans belong to companies, 3.953 billion lira of individual citizen loan debts are tracked by banks as bad loans.

50.8 billion lira of credit card debt

Retail credit card debts, which increased nationwide due to the economic crisis and high inflation, amounted to 50.869 billion lira in 10 provinces. Adana ranks first with 12.4 billion lira in card debt, followed by Gaziantep with 8.9 billion lira and Hatay with 6.8 billion lira in card debt. While the city with the highest consumer loan debt is Adana at 15.3 billion lira, the people of Gaziantep have a consumer loan debt of 10.6 billion lira and the residents of Hatay 9.3 billion lira.
