Foreign trade deficit increased to 109.5 billion dollars in 2022
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the foreign trade statistics for December 2022.
Thus, in December 2022, exports increased 3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 22 thousand 910 million dollars, while imports increased 12.2 percent and reached 32 thousand 612 million dollars.
According to the general trade system, exports increased 12.9 percent in the period January-December 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, and reached 254 thousand 172 million dollars, and imports increased 34 percent to 363 thousand 711 million dollars.
In December, the foreign trade deficit increased 42 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, going from 6 thousand 832 million dollars to 9 thousand 701 million dollars.
In the January-December period, the foreign trade deficit increased 137 percent, going from 46 thousand 211 million dollars to 109 thousand 539 million dollars.
IMPORTS EXCEPT ENERGY AND GOLD INCREASE 0.5 PERCENT
While the export-import ratio was 76.5% in December 2021, it decreased to 70.3% in December 2022.
Although the ratio of exports to imports was 83 percent in the period January-December 2021, it decreased to 69.9 percent in the same period of 2022.
Exports, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, increased 2.7 percent in December 2022 from $20.875 billion to $21.437 billion.
In December, imports excluding energy products and non-monetary gold increased 0.5 percent from $21.591 million to $21.704 million.
The foreign trade deficit excluding energy products and non-monetary gold was 267 million dollars in December.
The volume of foreign trade increased 1.6 percent and reached 43 thousand 142 million dollars. In said month, the export/import ratio, excluding energy and gold, was 98.8 percent.
