Unilever today announced the appointment of Hein Schumacher as its new Chief Executive Officer. Schumacher succeeds Alan Jope, who announced his intention to retire from Unilever in September 2022.

Unilever Chairman Nils Andersen said in a press release: “We are delighted to welcome Hein as our new Chief Executive after an extensive global search process. Hein is a value-oriented and dynamic business leader with a diverse background of experience and an outstanding track record in the global consumer goods industry. He brings outstanding strategic capabilities, proven operational effectiveness and a strong experience in both developed and emerging markets. The board looks forward to Hein realizing Unilever’s full potential as a winning company that delivers long-term growth and value to all of its stakeholders.”

Who is Hein Schumacher?

Schumacher has been working at FrieslandCampina since 2015, initially as CFO, in 2018 as CEO of the dairy company. Before Schumacher started at FrieslandCampina, he worked for HJ Heinz. Here he started in 2003 as Chief Financial Officer of the Netherlands before moving on to Executive Vice President and Zone President at HJ Heinz. Schumacher did not start his career with HJ Heinz. Schumacher started out as Finance Manager at Unilever in 1997 before moving to Ahold in 2000.
